palazzo pants

I'm loving this season's fashion of palazzo pants but due to being absolutely huge of the larger persuasion at the moment and also quite tall I couldn't find any to fit me. They were either larger sizes and too short or long enough and too small. So I decided to make my own as I really wanted a pair. I bought some lovely purple floral fabric and added to my ever growing to-do pile while I worked up the courage to make them.

Luckily my dressmaking confidence is growing and after agreeing to a UFO challenge with Samantha of Handmade by Mrs H I gave them a try. I used a simplicity pyjama pattern that I had already and scaled up the size slightly and rather than tapering in the legs took them straight down.

They were relatively simple to make and I did most of the initial assembly with my overlocker (serger) and then reinforced any high stress seams using my sewing machine. They have a simple elasticated waist for ease of making and comfort.

Personally I think they are slightly too short but hubby says they are fine. Either way for a first attempt I think I did pretty well!

Please excuse me sticking my tongue out in the side profile pic but hubby was teasing me and that's the only side profile pic he took so I'll have to use it.

  2. They look great! I have some trousers slightly longer - my problem is I can get trousers my size, but for some reason if you're a size 22 you're all of a sudden supposed to be tall as well and cannot get anything in regular size. Having them longer makes for difficulties with flat(ter) shoes as you end up constantly walking on your trousers.
Oh and I like the side profile pic as it cheeky you sticking your tongue out!
