Sam's daily routine board

So I've noticed that Sam's TV time has been creeping up lately and occasionally he's been getting two treats from his treat box because he's been telling his Dad he hasn't already had one when he hasn't. Also the reward system we had been using had fallen by the wayside a bit as Sam seems to need something more visual.
We've been trying to learn the days of the week and months of the year using an old Velcro set from my teaching days so I decided to try and combine everything:

And this is what I came up with:

The trains are to grab my train obsessed son's attention. It's an old IKEA plastic frame that I'd originally bought for him to use to practice his writing.
I plan on using it with a whiteboard pen to circle the day, date & month every morning. The middle section is his daily allowance of tv, music player, computer (it may look a lot but he's only in school 2 hrs a day) and it gets crossed off as he uses it or looses it for bad behaviour. There Is also a reminder there that he has to do 30mins work at home every day too.
The bottom section is the reward part. When he is good he is awarded a smiley face and can choose which row to add it to:
- a ride in town 5 smileys
- mcdonalds 10 smileys
- a new train 20 smileys
This way he can see the accumulation of the smileys and can see his progress towards his chosen reward.
Let's see how it goes!

  1. What a great idea! You could sell iot :O) Not yours obviously but a variation on it. I find it hard to keep track of who deserves what and who doesn't!!
