New holiday clothes

Here are some of the things I made for holidays:
Cropped black trousers. This is seriously a BAD photo of me! Between weight issues and swelling from the plane trip I look huge :-( These trousers were a little bit too short but a nice comfortable fit so I decided to shorten them to just below the knee, turned out well too.

I love this dress! I bought 3 metres of this lovely soft t-shirt jersey and it's lovely and comfortable. I experimented this time and rather than doing rows of shiring elastic at the top I made a channel at the top to enclose some elastic. I used some lovely grosgrain ribbon that I had in my stash for the ties at the neck and made a fabric tie belt out of matching fabric but I've since got some more of the grosgrain ribbon like I used for the top instead.

And I even had enough fabric to make a long top too. This one has the elastic enclosure at the top the same as the dress, fabric neck ties and I experimented with an elastic back by stitching a piece of elastic 1/4 of my waist measurement to the back half of the dress. It worked well but I sewed it a little bit too low so I need to make a note of that for next time.

So all in all a pretty successful sewing project.

  2. thanks Judith they are actually really easy. Next time I make one I'll try and do a tutorial but for the time being if you google shired maxi dress there should be lots of tutorials out there.

  3. Just found your blog and had to comment! You are very talented and I look forward to looking through your posts. My name is also Leigh and, believe it or not, I also have a Sam! He is my oldest and will be 17 in February (where did the time go?...wish he was still 4 like your Sam!) I like to sew and do all kinds of crafts and I get lots of inspiration from all of these great blogs. :) Blessings from a kindred spirit in Ohio!
